Master of Education in Foundations in Behavior Analysis Admission Requirements


Admission Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in one of these areas:
    • Applied Behavior Analysis
    • Education
    • Psychology
    • Counseling
    • Mental health
    • Social work
    • Social science
    • Other (considered for admission on a case-by-case basis)
  • 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
  • GRE – not required for the master’s program

NOTE: Preference is given to individuals who currently work in an environment where skills in behavior analysis are used, valued, and supported.

Application Requirements

  • Completed University of Cincinnati Graduate School online application
  • Official transcripts for each institution attended
  • At least two letters of recommendation (preferably at least one that speaks to the applicant’s academic skills)
  • Professional resume or curriculum vitae
  • Brief goal statement describing the applicant’s interest in behavior analysis and professional goals
  • Pre-registration packet


International Students

English proficiency must be demonstrated by one of the following:

  • Minimum TOEFL scores:
    • Paper: 520
    • Computer: 190
    • Internet: 68
  • Minimum IELTS score: 6.5 overall ban score
  • Minimum PTE score: 47
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree at an English-speaking college/university
  • Completion of Level 112 of English instruction at an ELS Language Center
  • Students who have received a baccalaureate or higher degree in English from select countries are exempt from the English proficiency requirement


Transfer Credits

Up to nine semester hours of graduate credit from a regionally accredited college or university may be transferred into the Master of Education in Foundations in Behavior Analysis at the University of Cincinnati. Courses that are eligible for transfer credit must be substantively similar to a course offered as part of the program’s curriculum. Please note that transfer credit will not be granted for the BACB coursework (the first six courses in the curriculum). The course(s) must have been completed within five years prior to your application to the University of Cincinnati.

The Master of Education in Foundations in Behavior Analysis will only consider awarding transfer credit from individuals who have been accepted into the program due to the extensive time involved in evaluating courses for equivalency. University of Cincinnati can accept or reject transfer credits at its own discretion.

    My degree is in Fine Art from Purdue University. I graduated with an overall G.P.A. of 5.5. (5.75 in my major) on a 6 point scale.

    I have over 20 years experience in graphic design and advertising and have been teaching in title one (urban) schools for 7 years. Many of my students are EH and sped. My son has Asperger’s and is diagnosed with bi-polar. My older brother was mentally challenged and I have been involved in mental health concerns my entire life.

    Even though my undergraduate degree is not in one of the approved areas, do you think I would be granted admission?

  • We cannot say for sure whether or not a person will be admitted, as each application is carefully reviewed individually and holistically. While we prefer that your bachelor’s degree is in a related field (as the coursework is very terminology-based), it is not a requirement.
